At Pope's Corner we hung a right onto the Cam and after a couple of miles, at Upware,
we made a quick left and were soon in Reach Lode Lock.
The levels were the same in the river and the lode but we had to go through the open gate, shut gate, open gate routine but, fifteen minutes after you leave the lock, it automatically resets itself. Isn't science wonderful. There is a water point above the lock so having topped the tank up we were off up the lode to the next signpost.
It's an awkward turn under a footbridge onto Wicken Lode. Imray describes it as, "Navigable but narrow," that is a good description.
Narrow it is, but it does have a good depth of crystal clear water.
Look carefully, there is a roach at the bottom of the picture, gives an idea of how clear the water is.
Fen and wind pump. It really is beautiful up here.
Really good moorings at the end of the lode. I get the feeling we will be here for a day or two.
No comments about the shorts if you don't mind.

loved mooring up the end at Wicken when we were on the Fens. That lock is not 100% reliable and often use to refuse to play, but they soon came out and reset it.
Now....About those shorts......
Off to Tenerife in the autumn, the shorts are aimed at a beach lifestyle, not the fens. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!!!
